Monrovia — More than 100 teachers absorbed by the UNHCR Education Assistance Program for refugees have benefitted from an "All Teachers" training program intended to enhance their classroom performance.
The exercise was simultaneously held at the VOA and Banjor Refugee Camps, from November 13-15. The training was organized by the International Rescue Committee (IRC), an implementing partner of the UNHCR.
According to Mr. Fred Farwenel, Education Program Manager of the IRC, the training was expedient to prepare the Sierra Leonean teachers for their reintroduction into living in a normal society.
He said Sierra Leonean refugees are anticipating to be repatriated voluntarily to their country, and that the training would help them cope with the change of developments in their country.
"The workshop was intended to build their capacity. We focused on their fundamental principal for effective teaching," Mr. Farwenel pointed.
During the training, the IRC Program Manager said the organization prepared the refugees for repatriation which he added is part of its program.
The refugees were taught lesson planning, classroom management, lesson note preparation among others.
