Uganda: Prisons Staff to Get Drugs

Kampala — Prisons staff infected with the AIDS virus will get free aids drugs.

The Prisons AIDS control programmanager, Dr. Denison Nyabwana, said this would prolong their services to the institution.

He said the project was meant to help infected employees realise that being positive was not the end of life.

"We shall ensure that our staff who are infected get the drugs to keep them going as we continue with the struggle against this killer disease," Nyabwana told 600 recruits training at Luzira Prisons.

Nyabwana said the programme will start next month and will be jointly funded by the Rotary Movement.

He said the pilot project had started with five volunteers from Luzira. Services to be provided include counselling and voluntary testing.
