Luanda — Farmers in some provinces of Angola are using genetically modified seeds from humanitarian aid, said today in Luanda the co-ordinator of the National Centre of Phytogenic Resources, Elizabeth Matos.
According to the source, the farmers get food aid in the form of grains, and due to the lack seeds they are using part of their aid for food and the other one as seed.
This, she explained, can contaminate and alter the local variety as when genetically modified seeds are used, the plan thereof resulting is also genetically modified.
Elizabeth Matos said as well that the Government should not allow genetically modified products in the country.
