Nairobi — The newly ordained bishop of Embu Diocese in eastern Kenya, Rt Rev Anthony Muheria, has promised to cast his net into deep water and bring many flock to the already flourishing Catholic community in the Diocese.
Bishop Muheria expressed his joy that he was taking over a diocese that had been well catered for since its formation, thanks to its first bishop Rt Rev John Njue (now Archbishop of Nyeri) and Fr Gabriel Muverethi (the immediate Diocesan Administrator).
"The garden of Embu is well tendered, and what I will do is only add manure," said Bishop Muheria during his inauguration ceremony held at the Don Bosco School in Embu on Saturday January 10, 2004.
The ceremony was led by the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya, Archbishop Giovanni Tonucci who asked the new Bishop to "Live the life of Christ and love with the love of Christ."
The Nuncio added that Christians are such because they follow Christ, a person, not a doctrine.
The inauguration ceremony was also attended by other bishops, Kenya's President Mwai Kibaki, and several other church and the civil society leaders.
