Liberia: Human Rights Lawyer Turns Down Appointment On H'rights Commission

Monrovia — Liberian human rights lawyer and advocate, Samuel Kofi Woods, has reportedly turned down his appointment as member of the Independent Human Rights Commission of Liberia (HRCL).

A release issued by the Foundation for International Dignity (FIND), said it has consulted Mr. Woods, who publicly stated that he would not be disposed to serve on the Commission.

FIND pointed out that while Mr. Woods recognizes the critical role that the Commission can play in consolidating the gains of peace, he emphasizes the right of every citizen to respectfully choose where their fullest potential may be realized in the reconstruction of the country.

The release added that Mr. Woods has therefore reaffirmed his support and commitment to the peace process and would be available to work at various components of the Liberian government, and the international community through FIND to enhance peace, stability, respect for human rights and human dignity.
