Nigeria: U.S. Company Eyes Nigeria's Oil, Gas Sector

Lagos — ANADARKO Petroleum Corporation, an American Oil Company, has indicated interest in Nigeria's oil and gas sector.

Its manager in charge of international exploration, Mr. Robert Talley, said in Abuja that the company would like to participate in the country's upstream oil business.

Mr. Talley who was on a courtesy visit to the Presidential Adviser on Petroleum and Energy, Dr. Edmund Dankoro, said the company's interest in oil business in Nigeria was supported by the country's drive for transparency.

He declared his company's interest to invest in exploration and production, gas to value projects and other utility projects that would optimise value from Nigeria's hydrocarbon reserves.

"In view of the potential of Nigeria's oil and gas sector, Anadarko will welcome an opportunity to prove its technical expertise in the development of hydrocarbon and gas resources" Mr. Talley said.

He said that the company would give special focus on gas utilisation projects and use them to contribute to the economic development of the country.

The Presidential Adviser in his response promised to consider the bids from the company in the next round of licensing for blocs, later in the year.

He informed the company of the existing local content policy in the Nigeria's upstream oil industry and harped on the need for companies in the country to assist in the development of their host communities.
