Nigeria: Lagos Students Abandon Class Room for Cybercafe

Lagos — Despite raids on cybercafes by policemen and security agents to discourage secondary school students from patronising them during school hours, investigations have revealed that the number of students who visit cybercafes is on the rise.

City Update gathered that some students in places like Agege, Ogba, Ikeja, Iyana Ipaja, Iju, and Isolo during school hours move from one cybercafe to another.

It was learnt that these students patronise cybercafes which allow them to have access to pornographic sites and other sites that are mainly for adults.

A staff of an Ogba-based cybercafe told City Update that secondary school students are their biggest customers and that they would continue to encourage them.

City Update learnt that some owners of cybercafes have made "arrangements" with policemen who constantly invade other cybercafes to arrest students who patronise the places, hence diverting the patronage of such students to their own cybercafes.

Aside the influx of secondary school students at cybercafes, City Update also gathered that most cybercafes and internet centres in Lagos metropolis have refused to install the scam trapper in their cybercafes.
