Nigeria: Federalism: Ngige Tackles FG

Awka — Anambra State governor, Dr. Chris Ngige, yesterday indicated his determination to go all the way in resolving some issues of federalism which he has in dispute with the Federal Govenment. Giving an insight into why he decided to drag the Federal Government to the Supreme Court over the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Tafa Balogun's partial fulfillment of an Enugu High Court order of January 2, this year to withdraw his security detail, he said the move is to ensure that dictatorship is not given room in the Nigerian democracy.

The governor, who spoke when the out-going General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major-General Bashiru Jinadu, paid him a farewell visit in Awka, also challenged the constitutional powers of the Federal Government to withdraw his security personnel.
