Uganda: Anglican Church Condemns Violence

26 March 2004

Kampala — THE Anglican Church has condemned the increasing acts of mob justice in the country.

Bishop Charles Odurkami of Lango Diocese, citing the recent Lira killings, said mob justice was a form of abuse of people's rights and had led to several deaths.

Odurkami was speaking at a peace and human rights review workshop organised by Church of Uganda's planning, development and rehabilitation department in Lira district on Tuesday.

The workshop, attended by over 10 bishops, advised people to seek amicable means of resolving conflict.

Odurkami said he planned to use his international contacts in the fight against corruption.
