Angola: National Electricity Firm Selects Zone East Lighting Project

Luanda — Angola's Electricity Firm (ENE) already selected some electrification projects for border localities East of the country, to be financed by the African Development Bank (ADB).

According to the Executive Director for Planning and Engineering, Kilele Ntchiama, the same as what is being executed in the country's southern region, the firm selected, on Monday, common projects with the Republic of Zambia for the supply of electricity to border localities.

The Executive Director, who was speaking in the light of works of the annual meeting of the Union of Producers and Distributors of Electricity in Africa (UDPEA), started on Monday, said that besides this project ENE equally presented electrification programmes in the regions of Mbanza Congo and Noqui province of Zaire and Maquela do Zombo (Uíje), as well as Cabinda, all in the north of Angola, might benefit from electrical energy from Inga hydroelectrical station, DR Congo.

The meeting ending today, is being attended by representatives of Angola, South Africa, Mozambique, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Swaziland, Malawi and Lesotho.

UDPEA, an organisation founded in the year 1970, aims at promoting the development of the electrical sector, through active cooperation among member states and is composed by 42 electrical firms of 36 African countries.
