Luanda — At least USD 64 billion will be used by the African Union of Electricity Producers and Distributors (UAPDE) in the financing of electrification projects in bordering villages of Angola, Namibia, Lesotho and Zambia.
The project, to be submited to the general Secretariate of UAPDE, was approved on Tuesday, in Luanda, during the meeting of the southern region on the electrification of the border villages, which started on Monday.
In order to implement the programme, Angola will receive about USD 34 million, Lesotho USD 4 million and Zambia around USD 26 million.
The electrification plan of border villages will later on be submitted to the African Development Bank (ADB), for its financing.
The two-day meeting counted on the participation of representatives of Angola, South Africa, Botswana, Malawi, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland and Zambia.
