Customers of the Postal Services may only start receiving money tomorrow
Just hours after his commissioning as the General Manager of the Cameroon Postal Services (CAMPOST) last April 26, Bayemi Maurice started work immediately . He issued a release suspending all financial transactions in the newly created corporation. Payment will only resume tomorrow, Thursday ,April 29.
Bayemi Maurice in a press briefing after his installation told journalists that he intends to suspend work on the pay counters in order to seek rapid solutions to the problems of the clients. He further declared that the team he heads "will take the bull by the horns so as to restore confidence in clients of the postal services, put an end to unlawful opening of mails in post offices and reinstate discipline within the corporation". Bayemi Maurice matched his words with action as he spent the day of yesterday holding close door consultation meetings with his collaborators to acquaint himself with the various problems and put in place a plan of action aimed at solving them. During the commissioning ceremony, the new Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Antoine Zanga told the new team " the battle that we must engage in and win has to do with winning back the confidence of the clientele. You must merit the confidence of the Head of State by winning that of the clients".
The staff and clients of CAMPOST, remain hopeful that the change in the name of the corporation and the appointment of a new managing team is a leeway to seeking permanent solutions to their protracted problems. As of yesterday, many clients were still streaming into post offices and Postal Savings Banks to withdraw money they had saved. Here, they were warmly welcomed by staff at the pay counters and told to come back tomorrow, April 29 set aside for the resumption of financial transactions. The decision taken by the new General Manager to suspend financial transactions at the pay counters until the end of today was explained to clients. The decision they told clients, is intended to seek appropriate solutions to their worrying savings problems. At the Postal Savings Banks in Yaounde, the pay counters were empty yesterday morning . The staff on their part sat in small groups commenting on the changes in the corporation.
