Two Israeli experts have arrived in Ethiopia to conduct training of trainers on Cotton Crop Production and Management at Arbaminch Water Technologies Institute.
The two-week program, coordinated by the Embassy of Israel in Addis Ababa and financially supported by MASHAV, Israeli Center for International Cooperation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, was officially launched last week.
The program is hoped to assist the trainees to strengthen their knowledge of providing agricultural extension services to a large number of farmers engaged in producing cotton products.
The Ambassador of Israel to Ethiopia, Mr. Doron M. Grossman, described the program as one of continuous Israeli assistances to Ethiopia, particularly in the field of agriculture. Ambassador Grossman further said that as agriculture is the backbone of Ethiopia's economy, Israel will provide various assistances in this field to help Ethiopia attain the desired targets.
According to the Ambassador, Ethiopia is one of the major countries currently benefiting from MASHAV programs and the program marks a further signal of growing bilateral relations between the two states.
The course, is being conducted by two professional experts, Mr. Yair Sachs, Plant Protection Extension Officer, and Mr. David Shemesh Field Extensionist in Western Galilee District, both from Israeli Ministry of Agriculture, and covers issues such as improved agronomic practices of cotton including preparation, planting methods, crop rotation practices, fertilizer requirements of the cotton crop and its application method, breeding and crop protection aspects of cotton crop among others.
Some 40 participants drawn from various levels of federal and regional agriculture offices are taking part in the programme.
