Liberia/Sierra Leone: Lone Star Heads for Freetown

Monrovia — The national soccer team of Liberia, Lone Star is heading for Freetown, Sierra Leone to meet the Leone Star. The 27-man delegation includes seventeen players from four premier teams, LPRC Oilers, Mighty Barrolle, Invincible Eleven (IE) and LISCR FC, as well as one from Watanga FC of the first division.

The playing body comprises six players from Mighty Barrolle, skipper Varmah Kpoto, Fredrick Vah, George Miller, Solomon Grimes, Morris Baryou and Pascal Karblee, while Eric Lee Wright, Emmanuel Gbamy and Lartee Jackson are from Invincible Eleven (IE). As for LPRC Oilers, the players selected are Shelton Barlee, Varney Boakai, Isaac Pupo, Solomon Wesseh, Isaac Tondo and Takpo Sonkarliey. The LISCR FC duo of Henry Gobah and Blamo Weah are making the trip along with Preston Corporal of Watanga FC. The Lone Star will leave Monrovia on Friday, May 7, and will return on Monday, May 10, 2004. While in Freetown, the Lone Star will take on the Leone Star on Saturday, May 8, before engaging local club East End Lions on Sunday, May 9, 2004. The match is part of preparations for 2006 Nations and World Cup qualifiers that begin in June, 2004.
