Lagos — Beginning from Monday, the popular Isolo road at Alafia junction in Mushin Ajina Local Government area will be closed to rthe public.
This is to enable the state government to clean all the drains and canals and carry out rehabilitation work on the road in the area ahead of the rainy season. The Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello stated this yesterday at the Ministerial Press briefing to mark first year anniversary of the state Governor Bola Tinubu's second term in office.
He disclosed further that N601 million of the N1 billion budgeted has been released for the construction of drains, dredging of primary channels and maintenance of collector drains in and around some specified councils in the state.
According to him, to facilitate effective discharge of the various collector drains and improve flows in the channels, for flood free environment, some critical sections of identifying primary channels had been proposed for dredging.
He said the areas to be dredged included Gbagada System I, Bariga Channel Systems II and III as well as Shomolu-Iwaya, Systems four and five at Western Avenue, Iponri/National Theatre among others.
