Nigeria: Miracle Broadcast: NBC Begins Clamp Down

Abuja — National Broadcasting Com-mission (NBC) said yesterday, it would begin clamp down on any radio or television station, which broadcasts unverifiable claims of miracles from Christian Tele-evangelists.

The Commission's ultimatum to radio and television stations to discontinue the offensive religious broadcasts, which was issued on March 30 , expired April 30 .

Acting Director-General of the Commission, Mr. Livinus Okpala in a chat with newsmen in Abuja said the sanctions for erring stations as outlined in the Nigeria Broadcasting Code include reprimand, fines, reduction of broadcast hours, suspension of broadcasting license and eventual revocation of the licenses.

"I wish to assure you that the Commission is fully resolved henceforth to carry out the mandate it has. If there was arm twisting in the past, the commission is resolved to carry out its mandate in line with the democratic dispensation ," Okpala stated.
