Nigeria: Papa Ajasco Wins Nkrumah Award

Lagos — Super Story and the popular comedy series, Papa Ajasco and Company, created by Wale Adenuga, recently won the prestigious Kwame Nkrumah Leadership Award.

At the event held at La Palm Beach Hotel, Accra, Ghana, Wale Adenuga was singled out in the entertainment industry as worthy of the award.

His programmes, particularly Super Story have recorded success beyond Nigeria, as the TV drama series is aired on Metro TV (the biggest private television channel in (Ghana) and commands great patronage among Ghanaians.

In the citation read in his honour, Adenuga was described as a notable social crusader who has used his television production to enlighten his teeming viewers on Malaria, Polio, Reproductive Health, Prostitution, Child Trafficking, Drug Abuse and indeed the dreaded AIDS.

Little wonder he was the choice of management of World Bank-Assisted HIV/AIDS programme, Development Project (Abuja, Nigeria) for a TV Drama Project titled "A call to Action".

Apart from Wale Adenuga, other notable Nigerians that received award include, Dr. Dora Akunyili (NAFDAC boss), Chief Pascal Dozie (MTN Chairman), Alhaji Bello Lafiaji (NDLEA boss), Mrs. Modupe Adelaja, Chief Samuel Adedoyin (CEO, Doyin Group), Governor Bukar Abba Ibrahim of Yobe State, Governor Chris Ngige of Anambra State and others.

Speaking after the awards ceremony, Wale Adenuga said "I feel honoured being recognised outside the shores of my country. This award is just to tell me not to rest on my oars, it will propel me to do even better. I am grateful to Nigerians, Ghanaians and indeed all our viewers all over the world. Our best is yet to come".
