Uganda: Disabled Back NRMO

Kampala — Disabled persons' leaders recently vowed to campaign for the National Resistance Movement Organisation (NRMO), saying it considered the interests of persons with disabilities (PWDs).

"The Movement Government should go on because it has the disabled high up on its agenda," State Minister for the elderly and disabled Florence Ssekabira told a conference for disabled youth held in Kampala.

She asked districts without PWD representatives on their service commissions and tender boards to submit their credentials to her office for action.

"Some districts have said they have failed to get qualified PWDs on their service commissions. We have toiled to secure those posts. We have qualified PWDs in Kampala who we can send to them," she said.

Alex Ndeezi, the chairman of MPs for PWDs said they would remain PWDs even after elections, adding that, "the only alternative is to campaign for the Movement which has recognised us."
