Nigeria: CAN President Appeals for Peace in Kano, Plateau

17 May 2004

Lagos — President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Most Rev. Peter Akinola, has appealed for peace in Kano and Plateau States.

Akinola, who is also the Primate of the Anglican Communion in Nigeria, made the call during the Church Synod.

Emphasising the need for understanding, Akinola said Nigerians should see themselves as one and love each other.

According to NTA news network monitored last night, Akinola expressed regret over the situation in the two states, adding that Nigerians should learn to love themselves.

With love, he said, the incident in Kano and Plateau States would not have occured.

The two states have in the past two weeks witnessed crises that have led to the death of about 40 Nigerians.
