Nigeria: Cult Killings - 20 Students Arrested - Police in Stop And Search

Ibadan — As normalcy returned to the University of Ibadan, where nine students died as a result of violent clashes between rival cult groups last weekend, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Moses Anegbode, has disclosed that the police arrested 20 suspects in connection with the disturbances.

The police boss, who spoke with journalists at the state Police Command Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan said the suspects were arrested in their hostels after the clash. He however, disclosed that they have been released after screening.

Mr. Anegbode disclosed that the police were on the trail of the masterminds of the clashes. He vowed that they would be fished out of their hideouts.

He noted that the police had received useful information as regards the identities of the alleged cultists.

"We will get all of them arrested. They have nowhere to hide, except they do not return to the campus. We have their identities already. Apprehending them will not be difficult," the police boss stated.

Meanwhile, the authorities of the university, yesterday said that normalcy had returned to the university.

Addressing journalists, Registar of the university, Chief (Mrs.) Moji Oladipo, disclosed that the authorities of the school had improved security on campus. She revealed that plain-clad policemen have been deployed to the campus to complement the internal security of the university and are now carrying out stop and search operations.

"Ours is to prevent further loss of lives and we have put in place sufficient security network to prevent a recurrence," she assured.
