Johannesburg — Africa does not have the resources to fight HIV/AIDS and eradicate poverty, former Zambian president, Kenneth Kaunda said at at an International Conference held earlier this week in Kenya's capital, Nairobi.
"For us to succeed we need enormous resources but Africa does not have the level of resources needed to effectively deal with the issues at hand," the former statesman told delegates at the International Conference on Population and Development.
Kaunda said after two decades of the AIDS crisis, intense research efforts and a "vigorous campaign" was needed in order to develop effective strategies in tackling the pandemic.
The conference discussed reproductive health issues in Africa and reviewed progress made since the last meeting in Cairo, Egypt a decade ago.
