Uganda: The Yellow Ribbon, Be Part of It

Kampala — Symbol of hope

OVER two million children in Uganda are orphaned, abandoned and treated very badly.

For example, because of HIV/AIDS many children have lost their parents and some children have been separated from their families because of war.

On July 1, many people and organisations, who care about children, will meet at the International Conference Centre in Kampala to launch the symbol of the yellow ribbon.

Yellow is the colour of hope and sunshine.

The yellow ribbon stands for the hope that one day all orphans and vulnerable children will be safe, healthy and have their rights upheld. The launch of the yellow ribbon at the conference centre is a call for everyone to join the campaign.

During the campaign, which will last a long time, yellow ribbons will be offered. If you are offered a Yellow Ribbon, after July 1, wear it as a tribute to the millions of orphans and other vulnerable children in Uganda. Wearing a Yellow Ribbon will be the first step to show you care. The next step is to show how serious you are through your actions.

You must do whatever is in your power to offer orphans and other vulnerable children; care, support, protection. You can show care through kind words and actions to children who are sad and in pain.
