Angola: Cunene: Upgrading Seminar for Activists Against HIV/Aids Opens

28 June 2004

Ondjiva — About 20 members of youth associations linked to the fight against Hiv/Aids are attending since today morning in Ondjiva city, Angola's Southern Cunene province, a training seminar for the sale and distribution of condoms, promoted by a US organisation, Population Service International (PSI).

According to Carlos Ponte, National Sales Coordinator of PSI, the action has the objetive to upgrade the activists of the associations who work in partnership with PSI for the distribution of condoms in areas with huge concentration of people, and it is part of the social marketing project of the organization in national level.

The PSI official referred that the action, the first of the kind in this province, complements the other one related to the official launching of the "Legal", a brand of condom, held two months ago at the Santa-clara village, Angola/Namibia border by the same organization.

Speaking to Angop, Mr Ponte said that they chose the Cunene province for the execution of the projet due to the high rate of Hiv/Aids spread in this province.
