The Mother & Child Community Development Foundation (MCCDF) will commission an "Early Childhood Development Centre" at Amasaman, in the Ga District of the Greater Accra Region. The commissioning would be performed by President Kufuor whose wife, the First Lady, Mrs. Theresa Kufuor is the Chief Patron.
The Foundation is engaged in community development and self-help projects targeted at young mothers in deprived situations, their offspring and those most exposed to HIV/AIDS, AIDS patients and their dependents.
Mrs. Kufuor who is herself a veteran of Ghana's health service has been quietly building the foundation these past three years. Tomorrow's commissioning at Amasaman brings to two the number of such projects completed. The other one is situated in Kotobabi, a suburb of Accra.
Some key areas of concern 1. Pre-school education: offering one balanced meal a day 2. Child development and skills training 3. First Aid facility 4. Parenting and counseling centre 5. Adult education facilitator 6. Parental training and adult skills development 7. Planned parenting advisory centre 8. Single mothers' training and support centre 9. Micro-enterprise opportunities leading to long term self sufficiency 10. Educational and information centre 11. Family support centre 12. HIV/AIDS telephone counseling centre 13. Supply of supplements and drugs to HIV/AIDS victims
