Southern Africa: World Commemorates Week of Small Arms

Harare — From July 1 to 9 the world commemorates the Global Week of Small Arms, which is probably the largest globally co-ordinated small arms event. It is co-ordinated by the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA). The theme of this year's Week of Action is "Control Arms Campaign - Calling for an Arms Trade Treaty".

The purpose of the Week of Action is to raise media and public awareness of the devastating impact of small arms on so many people's daily lives and to highlight the worldwide efforts being made to stop it, write Frederick Sadomba and Gwinyayi Dzinesa of the Centre for Defence Studies at the University of Zimbabwe.
