Botswana: Over 60 Percent of Mascom Now Citizen Owned

The restructuring of the country's mobile phone giant, Mascom Wireless Botswana, has heralded a new era in the Botswana telecommunications landscape with citizen owned companies that control the pension funds staking more than 60 per cent shares in the multi-million Pula company. Yesterday a ceremony was held to mark the transfer of controlling stake of the company to the citizen companies.

Executive chairman of the country's regulatory body, Botswana Telecommunications Authority (BTA), Moses Lekaukau hailed the move, saying it has ushered in a "new and exciting era".
