Liberia: Partisans Petition Thompson for the Race

- Ellen Gets tough Challenge

With few months to party convention, a partisan of the Unity Party has accepted a petition calling on him to stand as a formidable challenger against the all-time standbearer Ellen John Sirleaf in the ensuing polls.

A group of partisan, under the aegis of the Concerned Vanguard Partisans of the Unity Party petitioned Mr. Samuel Wonwi Thompson to challenge Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for the position of Standard-bearer of the Unity Party during its coming national convention.

The partisans yesterday presented the petition during the launching and endorsement of Mr. Samuel Wonwi Thompson's candidacy for standardbearersip of the Unity Party.

They said that Mr. Thompson is progressive partisan who "will undoubtedly encourage a democratic political culture and political co-existence." Accepting the challenge Thompson reminded partisans about the new trend in the Unity Party and the continuation in evolving democratic principles in Liberia.

He his partisans were loyal to the democratic ideals as enshrined in the party's constitution and committed to promoting the party's continuing relevance in the search for transparent, responsive and democratic governance," have petitioned me," he said.
