Uganda: Obua's Strongest Men Join Okiror

Kampala — Three of incumbent Dennis Obua's diehards in the Western region have crossed to join Mr. Michael Okiror's camp.

The two are vying for the Fufa presidency come the elections in December.

Obua's supports who crossed include; Chris Kalibala (Bushenyi), Abbas Sendyowa (Mbarara) and George Kabwemukya of Masindi. They announced their support to Okiror in his recent visit to the region.

"I was warmly welcomed in the West. I have over 90 or 95% of the support there because that region has 33 delegates among which only three do not support me," Okiror told journalists during his weekly press briefing on Thursday at Mosa Courts.

Okiror said: " I have visited almost every part of Uganda now and the support is great and enough to get me into office. My last area to visit now is West Nile,"

The Kumi delegate and former treasurer also said that he is not bothered about Obua's plans to extend his term of office for one year.

"We in the assembly are Obua's employers and nobody is willing to extend his stay, not even by a day. We are going for elections and shall immediately make changes," said Okiror.

He then said that if given chance to be in office, he would revise the amount of money collected from the teams that play in the zonal mini leagues.

"When I was still the Fufa treasurer, we had an annual budget of Shs 2m for zonal mini leagues, but ever since I resigned, that budget died. Teams pay a lot of money to take part in these mini leagues, " stressed a bitter Okiror.
