Liberia: Neufville Chides NTLA for Corruption, Tyranny

Says Suspended NTLA Member Neufville

Even though he is suspended, bereft of immunities and barred from entering the Parliament Building where he has been working for almost a year, it appears that Mr. Rufus Neufville is by and large invigorated and strengthened to advocate for the youth.

Just a day after his rather "controversial suspension" for three month's suspension Youth Representative Rufus Neufville accused the legislature of being corrupt and tyrannical, and termed his colleagues' action as crucifixion as he "stands for the right of the people of Liberia".

According to him, Liberia is about to build a strange parliament, which he said, tends to give room to the decisions of the Speaker and members of the legislature to determine opinions of individual members.

True liberation was the focus of his statement to students of the University of Liberia. He told them that those who voted against his advocacy should and must call themselves "liberators". They are not liberators," he emphasized.

He said that those so-called liberators were "corrupt and tyrannical" and their "actions have the penchant to make the "poor poorer and rich richer."

Mr. Neufville disclosed that if the NTLA cannot work hard to reduce the high cost of living in post-war Liberia, they should be ready to face the wrath of the citizens.

The Youth Representative was addressing students of the University of Liberia on the main campus of the UL last Friday, a day after his suspension.

He used the occasion to call on UL students, political parties to engage the NTLA fully on the matter of his suspension.

Mr. Neufville also called on youths and student groups not to take the matter unserious because it is affecting the youths of Liberia.

He stressed that unless the legislative branch is occupied by those he called "more vibrant people", Liberia will remain doomed.

It can be recalled that during deliberation, the Youth Representative Neufville embarked on a protest calling on the NTLLA to show concern for the ordinary people by parking their cars to provide for the much-talk-about 25 buses promised by the government.

But that did not go down well with some of his colleagues which resulted to the suspension of the Youth Representative.

Announcing the legislative action against representative Neufville, Deputy Speaker Eddington Varmah said the action by the Youth Representative was in total disregard to his colleagues and to the integrity of the NTLA.
