Nigeria: Operators Brainstorm On Nigeria's Maritime Potentials

Lagos — Nigeria is a core maritime nation with the potentials of being the hub of port activities in the West African sub-region. These prospects were some of the high points of a Transport conference organised by pathways Africa, a magazine that dwells on transport development in Nigeria. Correspondent, Willy Eya reports.

Recently, the issue of security has remained paramount in the maritime industry. Since the September 11,2001 terrorist attack of the Pentagon and the World Trade Centre in United States most maritime nations have suddenly woken up to the challenges of security in their marine environments. Many strategies had been adopted to check terrorism in this sector. The high point of all these measures was the introduction of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) code by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).
