Liberia: 33 Public Schools Under Renovation in the Southeast

Maryland County — The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) in Harper, Maryland County has commenced rehabilitation works on about 33 public schools in the Southeast of the Country.

The DRC Information Officer, Rowena Geddeh, said renovation works is her organization way of identifying with educational system of the Country.

She said schools that have been earmarked include the P.G. Wolo High School in Grand Cess, Gbeapo Central High School in River Gee, Cape Palmas High in Harper, Maryland County and Sasstown High among others.

Miss. Geddeh said the renovation of the schools comes in the wake of appeals from the local schools' authorities. But she did not say how much it would cost to renovate the schools.

The 14-year civil war caused most of the schools in those areas to be destroyed. Many of the schools were abandoned due to the war as unscrupulous individuals went in and looted them.
