Lubango — At least 41.513 children, women in fertile age and pregnant were this year vaccinated against poliomyelitis, diphtheria, tetanus and measles, under the routine campaign carried out by health authorities in Caluquembe district, southern Huíla province.
Angop learnt from the chairman of the local sector, Manuel dos Santos, who informed that the campaigns were carried out in various centres of the three communes which make up the district.
He stated that, awareness campaigns on the importance of vaccines were conducted by health activists, mainly in high density areas.
Manuel dos Santos said that during this same year 33.423 children from zero to five years old were immunised against poliomyelitis, under the two phases of campaigns held in July and August 2004.
He mentioned diarrhoea, severe respiratory infections and malaria as the most frequent diseases in that locality.
