Minna — FRESH twelve "wild polio" cases have been discovered again in Niger State and with a strong warning from the state government that it will deal decisively with any group or individual who stand as a stumbling block to the success of the immunization in the state.
The state acting governor who also oversees the ministry of Health, Dr. Shem Zagbayi Nuhu made this known in Minna and declared that, "any attempt by groups or individuals to deny children of immunization will be strongly resisted by the government.
He described immunization against polio and six other children killer diseases as a right to every Nigerian child which should not be denied them. Dr. Zagbayi who was receiving the state NID team in his office pointed out that the state was loosing ground over the fight against the disease in the state compared to previous exercises and attributed the current trend to the rejection of the immunization by some parents.
The deputy governor particularly mentioned six local government areas in the state where the officials were disallowed from immunizing their children against polio and called on them to have a change of heart in order not to render their children invalid.
The local government according to him are Suleja, Shiroro, Bosso, Mokwa, Chanchaga and Gurara.
Dr. Zagbayi pointed out that the total war against the spread of child killer diseases in the country was irreversible and that the state will not be left behind in this laudable task. He therefore called on parents and guardians in the state to present their children for the immunization in order to set the state free of polio by the targeted year 2005.
Director of primary Health care in the state ministry of health, Dr. Hadiza Mohammed had earlier told the acting governor of the new cases of polio in the state which he said is disturbing. She called on the state government to as a matter of urgency take a decisive step on the matter to curtail further spread.
