Metropolitan Botswana has launched a new insurance cover targeting soccer followers and their families. The new product - Kgwele Bonanza was launched on Monday. It allows the beneficiaries an opportunity to attend the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Metropolitan Production Manager, Modise Ofitlhile said the product gives every resident of the country, an opportunity to plan now for a lifetime experience of watching the World Cup.
He said the product is meant to get Botswana football fans to attend the next three World Cup finals in 2010, 2014 and 2018. The minimum premium is P150 and the maximum is P5000. The lump sump is P15,000.
He said the money is going to be invested by Metropolitan and the offer is valid till June next year.
There is an optional benefit to ensure that the investment is protected against inflation.
Ofitlhile said in the event of death of the person who took the cover, the premium would be waived but the beneficiaries would still remain covered by the fund.
The first withdrawal from the fund would be in 2010, the second in 2014 and finally in 2018.
The minimum amount that could remain in the fund is P2,500.
Matshidiso Kowa, the managing director of Peoboswa, the broking company, which initiated the product, said people never think about taking an entertainment insurance cover.
"There is no better planning than investing in Kgwele Bonanza. It is an opportunity that you could never imagine. It is the only time when you sit down and say I am planning for my enjoyment," said Kowa during the launching ceremony.
Officiating at the launch, FIFA Development Officer, Ashford Mamelodi said Kgwele Bonanza investment plan provides a vehicle for all football enthusiasts in the country with an opportunity to be part of the world's greatest sporting festival.
He commended Metropolitan Botswana for their vision and the opportunity that they have created to ensure that people who follow the game of football are able through proper planning to watch the World Cup. "This event will no doubt be of interest to the entire African continent, but I believe it will be of special significance to South Africans and countries such as Botswana who share territorial borders with South Africa. I believe that the plan is godsent for all football followers and must be taken full advantage of so that many of us, for the first time will be able to not only watch World Cup but to be part of the sporting celebration that it epitomises," he said.
"I am aware of the great excitement in Botswana and no doubt the rest of the continent when the FIFA Executive Committee announced the hosting of the World Cup for the first time in Africa. Metropolitan Botswana have gone a step further with Kgwele Bonanza Investment Plan to make it possible for followers of the game to ensure that they watch the World Cup from the closest possible point - the stands of the World Cup venues.
