Monrovia — ...expects to construct Learning Center
The United Nimba Citizens Council (UNICCO)-Liberia, has received a 20ft container of books for use by schools in Nimba County. The books were donated by the International Book Bank Inc. based in Baltimore the USA to Nimba citizens residing in that country under the banner of the United Nimba Citizens Council (UNICCO)-USA.
The package contains over 50,000 pieces of text books ranging from primary to secondary materials including few reference books which also include Financial Accounting, Encyclopedias etc.
Meanwhile the Chairman of UNICCO-USA, Mr. Miamen Z.Z. Wopea is expected to lead a high-power delegation from the USA to Liberia this month to break grounds for the construction of a Learning Center in Nimba County where the books will be kept and managed. The learning center will in other words serve as a public library where students and the general public can research for vital information.
This donation marks the first major post-war effort of Nimbaians at home and abroad to actively participate in the reconstruction of war ravished Liberia especially learning institutions which form the crane of any nation's growth and development.
In another development, the UNICCO-Liberia categorically condemns the recent mob violence in Monrovia by disgruntle elements acting as religious extremist that resulted in to the burning of Churches, Mosques, and learning institutions. UNICCO notes with concerns that these are the same groups of destructive people that have destroyed lives and properties and kept Liberia and its people in abject poverty and underdevelopment for the past fourteen years.
UNICCO wishes to sign a warning to all those involve that the people of Liberia are tire of war and are very anxious to put their lives back together therefore, no amount of side tracking by those anti peace elements can reverse the current peace and security that are enjoyed by all Liberians.
The UNICCO-Liberia congratulates Chairman Bryant and the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) for ably handling the recent crisis which could have escalated into a total collapse of the current peace process.
