Uganda: Mbale Attributes Aids to Witchcraft

Mbale — Many people in Bukigai sub-county still believe that HIV/Aids is a result of witchcraft.

A report of a survey carried out by The Aids Support Organisation (Taso) of Mbale branch early this year, says 8.3 per cent of the 525 respondents interviewed said HIV/Aids is a result of witchcraft.

The Mbale branch Taso official, Mr Michael Watsusi, told the residents at the sub-county headquarters on Saturday that the study indicated that 30.1 per cent of respondents were at high risk of HIV infection.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the Bukigai Taso community initiative.
