Nigeria: NUPENG Plans Assault On Oil Companies Over Casualisation

CONCERNED over alleged increasing preference of oil companies operating in Nigeria for casual and contract workers instead of permanent staff, the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has decided to tackle the oil companies early next year to check the negative trend.

Though, NUPENG said all the oil companies are involved in the alleged anti-workers practices, Shell Petroleum Development Corporation (SPDC) is alleged to be leading a group considered to be major culprits in anti-labour practices, while Agip is accused of introducing a new dimension into the alleged anti-labour practices by planning to replace casual workers with service labour.
