Nigeria: Subscribers Threaten GSM Operators Over Poor Services

Lagos — The National Association of Telecommunications subscribers of Nigeria (NATCOMS) has vowed to "fight" the four GSM operators in the country over in poor services currently being expreinced by subscribers.

Since the start of this-year, GSM subscribers have been experiencing network problems like drop calls interrupted calls and undelivered message problems.

The president of NATCOM, Mr Deolu Ogunbanjo said complaints of network problems were mounting by the day hence the group's resolve to "fight."

He said the operators should have built adequate capacity to take the number of subscribers envisaged to use the networks, and stop focusing more on their financial gains.

He called on the executive vice-chairman (EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Engineer Ernest Ndukwe to look into the problems before the whole networks collapse.

His words: "just before the end of 2004 and the beginning of 2005, we have been receiving complaints bordering on network problems like drop calls, undelivered message, interrupted calls and others, and we have investigated and found those complaints to be genuine. We are hereby telling GSM operators to please let the subscribers enjoy their phones. They should build adequate capacity which will take their subscribers. We want to call on the EVC to NCC to please do something on this problem," he stressed.
