The occasion was massively attended by students and unemployed youths in the Littoral.
The 5th edition of the National Employment Week has been officially launched. The launching ceremony was presided over by the head of the Administrative and Judicial Affairs at the governor's office, Bidias Didier. Representing the governor, Mr. Didier called on the youths to listen attentively to the theoretical and technical explanations given to them by professionals of the employment sector. He said with the current economic recovery in the country, there is every sign that more and more job opportunities will be created for the youths in the near future. Prior to his speech, the head of the National Employment Fund in Douala, Kisso Benjamin, called on heads of industries especially those of the private sector to come to the aid of the youths by putting in place a veritable recruitment policy through out the national territory.
Since the putting in place of the National Employment Fund, many youths have incessantly been knocking at the door of the institution in search of jobs. For the year 2004, over 211,611 job seekers were received and orientated, 107,748 were inserted and reinserted into the job market, 23,791 economic promoters were financed and provided with self employed jobs, 44,231 were trained for different jobs in enterprises and 36,754 employment opportunities were generated from financial. In the Littoral province alone (though the 2004 year was a timid as the number of registered job seekers dropped from 7,000 to 5,490), the number of opportunities did not witness a major change as 4.432 job opportunities were available. According to Mrs Binai Marie Nicolette, chief of Intermediation Services at the National Employment Fund, the drop in the number of people seeking employment is attributed to the hike in taxes and other formalities. She revealed that in the just ended year, the National Employment fund registered a lot of success by training and providing employment for a great number of youths in the Littoral province. She said, for some time now, workers in most banks, petroleum industries, commercial, technical and administrative sectors do pass through the National Employment Fund.
It is in a bid to better these services that the National Employment Fund has temporally transferred its headquarters to "Maison du combattant" where several stands have been erected. In each of these stands, students and visitors are drilled on the procedure and opportunities that exist in getting and creating self-employed jobs. The seminar ends tomorrow.
