Nigeria: Stay At Home - Rangers Warn Complimentary Ticket Seekers

9 February 2005

Lagos — ARE you one of those who love to watch Rangers play for free, courtesy of complimentary tickets? Then this news is for you, although a bad one!

The club management in a bid to give the club's revenue base a jerk, has resolved not to issue complimentary tickets for the 2005 season which kicks off this weekend.

Hint to this effect was dropped exclusively to League Rendezvous last week by the imagemaker of the local city side, Mr. Edwin Eze in telephone chat.

According to Eze, "the era when people come to the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium to watch our matches free via complimentary tickets is gone. We have resolved to stop issuing out such tickets. All those who want to watch us play this season, must be prepared to pay. We are making some efforts to see how we can depend less on the government for funds and one of the ways of realising this dream is by ensuring that virtually all those who come to our matches pay at the gates."

Eze said the club's management would mount an enlightenment campaign to educate the fans on why they must cough out some money to watch the Flying Antelopes.

The Rangers imagemaker was quick to add that the VIP box of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium would this season not be thrown open to every Dick and Harry.

"The VIP box is a place reserved for the Governor and other top government and Nigerian Football Federation officials. We are not going to allow people who have no business there to invade the place as is usually the case during our home matches.

Interestingly, Rangers are also toying with the idea of setting up a marketing department to be headed by a General Manager.

"The new marketing department when set-up will shop for sponsors for the club," Eze disclosed.
