Lagos — THERE are strong indications that most clubs would start the 2005 pro-league season this weekend without their new sign ons, no thanks to clearance problems.
League Rendezvous gathered that virtually all the clubs are yet to clear their new sign-ons from their former clubs and as such would not be able to use such players.
According to our source, what most of the club officials have done is to go ahead to negotiate with players without tidying up their clubs.
"It's one thing to sign a player and another thing for you to get his clearance. And until a club officially clears a player, it will be illegal to use such a new sign on," our source pointed out.
We further gathered that the interim arrangement in the nation's football house has not helped matters as the league management committee only started to prepare for the new season a week ago.
The confusion at the Glass House did not help matters at all. The clubs didn't have anybody to work with. Don't forget the Oyike Obaseki led pro-league management committee only started last week or so to put plans in place for the new season."
League Rendezvous, however, gathered that a club like Dolphin have succeeded in clearing one or two of their new sign ons. The defending league champions, we reliably gathered, have cleared the duo of Edurance Idahor and Obinna Nnodim from Julius Berger of Lagos.
It's not yet clear, if reigning African champions, Enyimba would start the season with the likes of Obinna Nsofor, David Solomon and Ifeanyi Obadia signed on from Kwara United, JC Raiders and Gabros respectively.
