Addis Ababa — The 9th Addis Chamber International Trade Fair, organized by the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce (AACC) was yesterday opened at the Addis Ababa Exhibition centre in the presence of high government officials.
The trade fair, with the theme 'enhancing competitiveness' has brought together about 263 exhibitors from 31 countries in Africa, Europe, Asia, North America and Middle East. About 133 of these exhibitors hailed from the local market while 130 are from foreign markets.
"These trade fairs have proved to be very useful events in providing opportunities for local and foreign companies to promote their products and services to both Ethiopian and foreign business communities and the public at large," Ato Hailemeskel Abebe, Assistant Secretary General of AACC said.
Renowned businesses like Sebeta Agro industry, Awash International Bank, MOENCO, Ethiopian Insurance Corporation, the Port of Djibouti, United Insurance Company, Nib Insurance Company, and several others were part of the exhibition.
"As a place where technology suppliers, seekers and distributors can meet and enhance business, this trade fair is a very important ground," Ato Eyessuswork Zafu, Vice President of AACC said.
It was also learnt that since the city's biggest exhibition centre was not big enough to hold this years exhibitors, the AACC has decided to construct an international standard exhibition ground on a 100,000 square meter of land secured from the Addis Ababa City Government.
Eyessuswork also stated that the AACC has organized a first of its kind 'specialized Trade Fair in Agriculture and Food (AGRIFEX Ethiopia 2005), with the theme of Agriculture for Growth, from June 2-6, 2005.
