Uganda: Road Construction Body Warned On Compensation

22 February 2005

Kampala — THE Minister of Works, Eng. John Nasasira, has given the Road Agency Formation Unit two weeks to ensure that the people affected by the Busunju- Hoima road are compensated.

This was after complaints were raised by residents of Kiboga over improper compensation and valuation of land and property affected by the road construction.

Nasasira gave the ultimatum on Friday at the Kiboga council hall while briefing district leaders on the progress of the road, whose construction had stalled.

He said the Government was committed to ensuring that the road is completed by December.

Nasasira said the road was meant to help transform the district.

"We shall consolidate on our work but you should also consolidate supporting the movement government," he said.

Nasasira thanked the residents for being patient and not despairing during the delay.
