ABOUT 80 players from more than 10 schools have confirmed participation in today's Penguin Pharmaceuticals-sponsored Midlands Schools Table Tennis championships.

The championships scheduled for the University of Zambia (UNZA) sports hall will be played in four categories namely, the under-14, under-16, under-18 and losers plate for both boys and girls, will see pupils from schools around the Midlands region jostling for honours that include three floating trophies and several individual shields.

Zambia Table Tennis Association (ZTTA) tournament coordinator, Boyd Kabinda said over 10 schools with more than 80 pupils would stake their prowess to see who scoops the Penguin Pharmaceuticals sponsored championships.

Kabinda said the tournament will be played on a knock-out basis that will see best losers in the age-categories fighting for consolation prizes in the plates category.

And during the donation of the prizes, Penguin Pharmaceuticals director Yusuf Ganghat said the sponsorship is part of the company's objective to plough back something into the community, saying that the gesture would help youths refrain from immoral vices and instead concentrate on sports activities.

Kabinda also urged other business houses to emulate Ganghat's gesture by making similar donations to sports organisations.
