Kigali — A Moroccan web expert has trained 20 web technicians from several institutions dealing in ICT.
They trained on dynamic web development and content management systems.
Thomas Bekkers of the Morrocco Development Gateway equipped the trainees with notions on how to automatically update websites using SPIP software.
"With this software, anyone can easily update a website with no prior ICT knowledge as it has always been the case," Bekkers told The New Times.
The ICT expert also noted that companies would no longer necessarily depend on webmasters to update websites after the trainees have gained the necessary IT knowledge.
"I'm convinced these people will pass on the newly acquired skills to their work mates to help operate on minimal costs," he said.
The expert is in the country on the Gateway initiative to disseminate ICT skills to the population. The training received support from the Rwanda Development Gateway and the National University of Rwanda.
Jean Philbert Nsengimana, the Coordinator of Rwanda Development Gateway at NUR, said, "This system will definitely help to keep the institution's portal fresh unlike before when the technology was static."
The trainees were from KIST, Artel, ORINFOR, ORTPN, RITA and the NUR Computer Center and Computer Science students.
After a week long training, they were awarded certificates of attendance by the NUR Vice Rector in charge of Academics, Prof. Silas Mureramanzi, who hailed the partnership of ICT stakeholders in promoting ICT.
