Of the 6519 total number of students, 3366 (51.6%) were girls and males were 3153 (48.4%).

For diploma courses, females were 25 and males were 23. Those who were getting their first degrees the number of female students exceeded that of males by 382,there were 3208 females and 2826 males. The Vice Chancellor Prof. Livingstone Luboobi said that this passing of female students was unusual and should be recognised. "This is one of the few ceremonies that the female have been more than male graduands and it's encouraging," he said.

However for the Masters programmes males doubled female students. The male were 220 while females were 88. Also males who got postgraduate diplomas were more than females, 74 to 48. When it came to Doctorates, there was no female students all the ten were male.

According to statistics the number of female undergraduate degrees exceeded that of men, this could be that Uganda has started reaping the affirmative action of 1.5 at the university.
