A Liberian female political activist, Medina Wesseh, has stressed the need for the establishment of a trust funs for the ongoing electoral process in the country.
Speaking at a one-day media awareness elections workshop, organized by the National Elections Commission (NEC) held Monday in Monrovia, Mrs. Wesseh said the establishment of a trust fund at a local bank in Monrovia would help the National Elections Commission smoothly speed up its electoral obligation.
She noted that the creation of the trust fund that will be controlled and monitored by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) "will ease the prolonged technicality in securing funds or materials for the already ongoing electoral process in Liberia." She further explained that it would also "create confidence of inter action between the commission and the parties in expending funds for the 2005 elections process which is the only framework for lasting peace in Liberia." At the workshop, NEC officials said they were worried about the long and technical arrangement on transaction for Funds and materials for the elections process.
UNDP is managing the fund that is coming from the international community for the 2005 parliamentary and presidential elections in the country.
