Nairobi — Kenya must increase its presence in the global market to achieve the Economic Recovery Strategy for Wealth and Employment Creation objectives, an export promotion official has said.

Mr Matanda Wabuyele of the Export Promotion Council said an increase in volume of exports would enable the country realise its development goals.

He was speaking during the opening of this year's Africa, Asia and the Middle East expo at Kenyatta International Conference Centre, Nairobi.

The four-day exhibition is the second of its kind in Kenya.

The event will showcase 30 exhibitors from six African, Asian, and the Middle Eastern countries.

"Our aim is to attract foreign investors who we can use as an avenue to new markets," said Wabuyele.

He said the objective of EPC was to provide a forum where local and international business communities sample each others' products.

The exhibition also aimed at forming strategic business and marketing alliances.

The exhibitors are featuring in four trade segments that include food and beverages, print and pack, homes and offices, and safari and sport.

The print and pack segment features packaging machinery and publishing systems, whereas safari and sports exhibitors are featuring holiday destinations, sports and leisure.

The exhibition is targeting suppliers and distributors as well as agents.

A number of Kenyan companies, including Telkom Kenya, are expected to feature at the show.
