The long awaited launching program for over 12 tracks of Liberian music is finally set for Friday May 6, at the Monrovia City Hill.
The program, which is organized by the Community Outreach Unit of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) in collaboration with the Liberian Musician Union, is geared towards fostering peace and reconciliation in the country.
The launching of this CD, which is intended to bring to the doorsteps of Liberians, through Music, is part of the overall activities of the UN Mission in Liberia.
Songs to be released on Friday include: Today Is Mine, We Want Human Rights, War Is Not Good, Let's Unite. Others are: A New Dawn, Let's Reconcile, Building Bridges, and Lord Save Liberia. The Rest of the tracks are: Drop The Gun, There Should Be No Fighting, Let's Forget Our Difference, and Keep The Lone Star Shining.
Over 26 local Liberian Musicians were involved in the month long project sponsored by UNMIL.
Already UNMIL deputy representative Abu Moussa has been selected to serve as chief launcher. The ceremony which is first of its kind is expected to be graced by top officials of UNMIL, UN, and the government as well as the public.
Since the United Nations Mission in Liberia began its operations in October 2003, its Community Outreach Unit has been making frantic efforts in uniting the people, especially the ex-combatants and community inhabitants through several activities to get and move the country forward.
Meanwhile, several Liberians who have been waiting long for this launching program are said to be in high spirit.
According to them, such launching program will help significantly in moving the peace and reconciliation process forward.
