Kenya: Don't Appoint Biwott to Cabinet, Minister Tells Kibaki

Nairobi — Trade and Industry Minister Mukhisa Kituyi yesterday said Keiyo South MP Nicholas Biwott should not be appointed to the Cabinet.

He said he was not opposed to Biwott's co-operation with the Government but called on President Kibaki not to appoint him to a key position.

"He should sit in another Cabinet, not the one I am in. It will not go down well with many people," said Kituyi

Speaking in his constituency, Kituyi said some Kanu MPs allied to Biwott should be considered for ministerial positions to reward the Biwott camp for supporting the Government.

"I have no problem with Biwott. I would just want him to let the youthful MPs work in Government while he as their leader should only give them advise," he said.

Kituyi was speaking at Maliki Secondary School in Tongaren Division at a function to mark the division's education day.

The minister, at the same time, hit out at his Roads counterpart, Raila Odinga, for opposing Biwott's co-operation with the Government.

"He is the pioneer of such co-operations, having led NDP into a political marriage with Kanu. Biwott has good intentions and Raila should not feel intimidated," said Kituyi.

Commenting on the chaos that rocked his constituency last weekend, Kituyi said he was not scared of leaders he described as malicious and who, he said, were trying to undermine his leadership.

Last Saturday, youths tried to petrol bomb two Ford Kenya offices in Tongaren area, which were later opened by the party's chairman, Musikari Kombo.

The youths were reportedly opposed to the opening of the offices in the absence of Kituyi, who was out of the country.

Yesterday, Kituyi accused Kombo of fighting him politically and told him to seek advise from elders to lead the party in the right direction.
